Financial Foundations
Your Starting Point
We're all at different places in life, but let's remind ourselves of the basics. Let's start from the beginning and form our best financial habits. These are the basic principles of financial success that have held true all throughout time. From the Great Depression, Wars, The Great Recession and now. They're not complicated, but will require some unlearning and discipline in our ever more materialistic World.
Step 1 : This starts with living below our means to save money. I was always prolific with this step and could put off unnecessary spending from a young age. However, once I graduated college and began my first job I had more money rolling in than I knew what to do with. Despite my saving habits I had to learn more before I could progress to the next step.
Step 2 : Putting to work our saved money and investing. Although I had studied many mathematical courses I was not yet prepared to successfully and fully understand what this step meant. Investing, it is not complicated, difficult nor expensive to do. It will also take time and patience for your investment to grow and set you up for success. After reading many books, listening to numerous podcasts and following other bloggers and internet forums for years it can be boiled down simply so. Invest your $$ into index funds and do not touch or remove these funds until your retirement years.
Step 3 : Repeat these steps, and remind/evaluate yourself on your goals, financial habits and how your life and relationship with money has changed and hopefully improved so far.
Recap: Follow these basic steps repeatedly for financial success in life. It is simple, and should not be stressful or time consuming.
